Hello Old Friend

I ran my long run on Friday because I had to work Saturday morning.  I had 12 on the schedule and I wanted to revisit a trail that is beautiful but has a mile in there with killer hills.

My running buddy has finally recuperated from a bout of bronchitis.  She only wanted to run 8 miles since this was her first time running in 2 weeks.  I parked at one end of the trail and ran the first 4 miles alone.  It was nice.  I like running alone sometimes.  It gives me time to think about......well.....nothing.  I don't listen to music when I run.  I think a lot of people find that weird, but I find music and anything stuck in or onto my ears freaking annoying!  I also had my phone with me and I took some pictures of the trail.

I conquered the first four miles and I felt awesome.  I ran to the lot where she should have been waiting for me and she wasn't there.  I ran a little further to another park down the road thinking she would be there but she wasn't there either.  What the heck?  As I ran back to the first lot she came barreling in and apologized for being late.   I had to stop for about 5 minutes to wait for her and it is hard to just stop when you are in the groove and then restart strong.

Yup, this trail runs through a cemetery.

We started out and ran 4 miles back to my car and then 4 miles again back to her car.  So overall I visited that hilly mile 3 times! Around mile 10 I just wanted to be done.  I had to stop for about 15 seconds because that hilly mile was approaching and I was just spent.  Nonetheless we pushed on and finished strong.  I did 12 miles in 1:59 which was a 9:54 pace.  I am happy with that.

It was nice revisiting this trail.  I abandoned it early during last year's marathon training because it chewed me up and spit me out one too many times.

I think it is time to invest in some new running shoes.  My current pair have about 400 miles on them.  The ball of my left foot has been hurting me, not when I run but the next day especially when I first get out of bed.  I am just going to purchase the same style.  This will be my third pair of Brooks Ravennas.

When you are in the market for new running shoes do you go with an old trusty friend or try something new?

Total miles for the week = 23.

Hope spring has sprung in your neck of the woods.

  1. What a beautiful trail!!!!

As for the shoes...I found my new tried and true by trying something different. I had one of my favorite shoes on one foot and a different kind on the other...and realized that the new brand felt better.

    Good luck!

  4. Looks like a great place to run. I wear Brooks too. I've worn the same style for the last 12 pairs - I stay with what works! Great run!

  5. Nice run, well done! That looks like a great trail to train on. I stay with the same shoe unless they change it drastically in a new model. If it works, I don’t change it.

  6. Looks like you missed out on the cold, wind, and rain that we got

I am breand loyal and stick to what works for me, but I am not a neutral runner, my selection is limited

  7. I've only had four pairs of running shoes but they've all been Asics. This last pair is the same exact model as my previous pair and I bought it from Zappos. I know I saved money from the store since it's cheaper on Zappos and they were having a sale. I might try something new and buy a second pair when we get our taxes back. Might alternate them and extend the life of them... although my previous pair made it more than 1,000 miles :) Yeah, I needed to have bought some way earlier but oh well.

Great run also. 12 miles is a nice figure and to do it under two hours is always an accomplishment.

  10. Nice trail! Way to conquer that hill.

I tend to bounce around running shoe brands. Currently I run in a pair of Asics Cumulus 12's on the road and Nike Air Pegasus 27 trail shoes for snow & trails. BTW, the Nike's were awesome in the snow all winter. Very good traction.

Spring is trying to spring, but slowly. Still lots of snow around. Hopefully it will be gone in a week or so.
